Laura Canton

I am from Bel Air, Maryland and graduated from C. Milton Wright High School in 2004. I played many sports in high school and decided to attend Concord University, in southern West Virginia, to play volleyball. It was my undergraduate advisor that sparked my interest in ecology. Through the McNair Scholars Program I completed an undergraduate research project studying macroinvertebrate assemblages in a southern WV stream. I graduated from Concord in 2008 with a BS in Biology.

I am currently pursuing my Master's in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies. My thesis research focuses on oyster reef ecology, specifically the effects of mud crab predation on mussels and oyster spat.

I enjoy playing intramural volleyball, relaxing at the beach with a good book, and being an all round science nerd!

I could not have gotten this far without the love and support of my Mom, Dad, and sister, Kelly!
