Katie Altman

Background

I grew up in Murrells Inlet, SC and went to Coastal Carolina University for Biology as an undergraduate. I grew up playing in the woods in South Carolina and I've always enjoyed being outdoors, whether it is for camping, hiking, or kayaking. My undergraduate career nurtured and expanded my appreciation for nature and sparked my interest in the flora of South Carolina. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to earn a MS in Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies by researching the places I love most and to pass on the things I learn to others. I especially enjoy researching the plant communities within Carolina bays because these wetlands are unique to the Atlantic Coastal Plain.

Another of my long-term passions has been my work with people with special needs. I've been involved in the past with Arc of Coastal Carolina and Horry County Special Olympics, both of which are great organizations to work with.
