The educational objectives of bacterial  water quality testing activities are to:
  • Encourage students to learn about their environment in an open-ended, inquiry-based framework.   By studying bacteria found in local water samples, students further experience biodiversity.
  • Learn and practice hands-on skills including techniques for sampling and microbial analysis.
  • Have students use mathematical concepts and applications.  These skills are employed in working with the bacterial colony results.
  • Use scientific inquiry skills to formulate hypotheses and then test these hypotheses.
